Belgian Pro League 2026/2027 Preview: Lommel | OneFootball

Lommel have been part of the City Group for a number of years now and finally won promotion to the Belgian Pro League last season. They came up via the play-offs, and the squad certainly has the makings of a side that finished fifth in the Challenger Pro League. Even with the wealth on offer via the City Group, transfers haven’t been coming in thick and fast. Can Lee Johnson keep them up, or are they set for an instant return to the second tier?

Key player: Lucas Schoofs

With 14 goals and five assists last season, Schoofs was a key player for Lommel as they won promotion. Yet, throughout his career, he has struggled in both Belgium and the Netherlands to transition from the respective second tiers to the top flights. Lommel need him to finally be able to produce at the top level of the Belgian leagues if they want to avoid the drop.

Young player to watch: Sverre Nypan

Nypan is still only 19, but had already played over 60 games for Rosenborg by the time he left in 2025. Last season he played 21 games on loan at Middlesbrough in the championship. His best season was in Norway during the 2024 campaign, when he scored eight goals and provided seven assists. If he can find that form again, he could prove to be a really decent pick up for Lommel via the City Group network.
