The Belgian Pro League returned to action this weekend following the final international break of 2025. Matchweek 15 kicked off in Liege on Friday night, with one side picking up their first win by the end of the weekend.
Friday night’s action: Stalemate in Liege
Zulte Waregem travelled to Standard Liege on Friday night for the opening game of the weekend. The newly promoted side were reduced to 10 men during the first half when midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi was given a straight red card after 20 minutes. The home side dominated the chances but struggled to get past Brent Gabriël in the away sides goal. Marco Ilaimaharitra was also sent off just minutes after coming on as the game ended 0-0.
Saturday’s action: Club Brugge and Union St Gilloise continue to win
Union St Gilloise won again as they took care of business at home against struggling Cercle Brugge. Goals from Promise David and Raul Florucz were enough for a side that put up 17 shots in total over 90 minutes. That is three wins on the bounce for Union while Cercle still have not won a game in the league since August.
Westerlo were unlucky not to take all three points at home to Gent as the tightest of VAR calls ruled out what should have been a deserved goal. Nacho Ferri was judged to be millimeters offside in the build up to Isa Sakamoto’s fine finish. The game ended 0-0 wth Westerlo having 20 shots an a final xG of 2.46. The sides search for a first win since the start of October continues while Gent remain inconsistent in the Belgian Pro League.
Hans Vanaken was the hero for Club Brugge as he scored the only goal of the game in their victory at home against Charleroi. Club dominated possession and had 17 shots on goal but failed to get past Ivorian goalkeeper Mahamed Kone, who had been brought in to replace the benched Martin Delavallee. Club have a crucial game coming up in the Champions League against Sporting and will need to be more clinical if they want to grab three points.
Sunday’s action: Dender finally win and OH Leuven finally lose under Felice Mazzu
Genk, like Gent, remain inconsistent this season. The side had plenty of chances to get more out of their home defeat to KV Mechelen. However, a solitary goal from Jose Marsa was enough for KV Mechelen to take all three points and now have a record of just one defeat in five games. KV Mechelen look good for a top six finish this year in the Belgian Pro League as they grabbed their sixth win of the season.
Dender finally won a game as they beat Antwerp 2-1 away from home. It marked the end of Stef Wils’ time in charge of the Great Old and gave Dender fans a glimmer of hope of remaining in the Belgian Pro League next season. David Toshevski gave Dender the lead before Kiki Kouyate equalised from a corner. Late on, substitute Ragnar Oratmangoen, who had come on for Toshevski, finished well to earn Dender a crucial three points and heap more misery on Antwerp.
Anderlecht made it nine points from nine as they struck late to beat RAAL La Louviere away from home. Ibrahim Kanate came on in the 87th minute and grabbed his first league goal for the Mauves in added time. RAAL have been solid at the back this season and proven difficult to break down for many sides. At the other end, they struggle to do much damage and ended the game with an xG of just 0.66.
OH Leuven lost their first game under Felice Mazzu as his former club took all three points. Sint Truiden took the lead through Ryotaro Ito from the spot, with Ilias Sebaoui doubling the lead just before half-time with a well taken goal. Thibaud Verlinden grabbed his first goal of the season on a rare start to get OH Leuven back into the game, but Sint Truiden held on for their eight win of the campaign.
