Belgium are set to travel to Kazakhstan in the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, with an opportunity to secure direct qualification for the tournament.
Currently leading Group J with 14 points accumulated from six games, the Red Devils sit just one point ahead of second-placed North Macedonia, who have a game yet to play.
Throughout the qualification campaign, Rudi Garcia’s team has maintained a strong run of form, showcasing an impressive attacking display by netting 21 goals in their six matches. Their biggest highlight was the 6-0 thrashing of Kazakhstan in the earlier fixture held in September, where Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku each scored twice.
The squad faces injury challenges ahead of this crucial clash. Kevin De Bruyne will miss the game due to a hamstring surgery, while all-time top scorer Romelu Lukaku remains out with a thigh issue.
On the defensive side, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been ruled out after sustaining an adductor muscle injury during Real Madrid’s 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano, expected to be sidelined for around 10-12 days. In his place, Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels is expected to guard the goal.
Other players missing through injury include defender Zeno Debast and forward Malick Fofana. Additionally, right-back Thomas Meunier will be unavailable due to a suspension resulting from accumulated yellow cards.
Despite the considerable injuries, Belgium’s squad depth offers some reassurance. Captain Youri Tielemans has made his return to the team after recovering sufficiently to take part in Aston Villa’s Europa League fixture on Thursday. Meanwhile, coach Rudi Garcia has also called up new faces Romeo Vermant and Kylian Ngoy to bolster the squad amid the injury setbacks.
Possible Belgium starting XI: Sels; Castagne, Debast, Theate, De Cuyper; Onana, Tielemans; Saelemaekers, De Ketelaere, Doku; Trossard.
The match will kick off at 2pm BST on Saturday, 15th November.
Fans in the UK will be able to watch the match live on TNT Sports.
