Habib Beye has been waiting since Sunday’s announcement of Medhi Benatia’s resignation, but Benatia’s reinforced standing on Tuesday should now clear the way for Beye to become Marseille’s head coach.

According to L'Équipe, owner Frank McCourt issued a morning statement that strengthens Benatia’s place, ending the stalemate. Beye lives in Bouches-du-Rhône and, since leaving Rennes on 9 February, has been shuttling between Paris and the region. He is currently on a train heading south.

Before the resignation twist, Benatia had led talks to install Beye as Roberto De Zerbi’s successor, with a meeting planned for Monday to finalise the deal. The announcement halted everything, leaving Beye in limbo for two days.

He has a 14:15 videoconference with the LFP’s legal commission to address his dispute with Stade Rennais.

After that, the parties aim to conclude discussions for him to take charge and prepare Friday’s Ligue 1 trip to Brest.
