Benfica and José Mourinho have been dealt bad news, with Fredrik Aursnes facing a lengthy absence after injuring the back of his left thigh.

Record writes that he will be out for four to five weeks, returning only in April after this month’s international break.

He suffered the injury in the first half against Gil Vicente, which immediately ruled him out of the Clássico. The only doubt had been the duration, and the prognosis is the worst for Benfica.

Aursnes will miss Arouca on Saturday 14 March and Vitória de Guimarães on 21 March. There is uncertainty over whether he will be fit for the trip to Casa Pia in mid-April.

He should also miss his national team’s call-up during the upcoming window.

This season, Aursnes, valued at €17 million, has played 43 matches for Benfica, 22 in the Liga Portugal Betclic, 14 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 3,635 minutes, he has scored four goals and supplied seven assists.
