In a meeting of the only two teams yet to score points in this Champions League edition, Benfica finally broke their duck, handing Ajax a fifth defeat in Amsterdam with a 2-0 win.
The Eagles struck early when Samuel Dahl pounced on a rebound to fire past the goalkeeper, and they almost doubled their lead through Pavlidis.

Ajax pressed late in the first half but struggled to break down a well-organised Benfica defence.
In the second half, the Dutch side’s pressure was fleeting, and Benfica remained dangerous on the counter, sealing the victory in the final minutes with Leandro Barreiro.
With their first points on the board, José Mourinho's side climbed to 28th, while Ajax stayed bottom.
