Benfica are close to agreeing a new contract with Daniel Banjaqui, one of the club’s brightest prospects. According to Glorioso 1904, the right-back, a European and world under-17 champion, has a fresh proposal and a deal is expected in the coming days.
Set to turn 18 on 24 March, he missed the last match due to flu. The file is seen as sensitive for the SAD led by Rui Costa, mirroring recent cases of José Neto and Anísio Cabral, also under-17 European and world winners and now with the first team.
Benfica first pushed for a renewal in the summer of 2025 after the under-17 Euros, but talks stalled. The matter was revisited following Portugal’s under-17 World Cup triumph in November, again without significant movement.
In mid-January a formal offer failed to satisfy the player and his representatives, leaving him behind Neto and Anísio in the queue. Recent days have brought meaningful progress, with a revised proposal closer to his demands and likely to be accepted. The contract is expected to run until 2031, with the release clause rising from 30 to 80 million euros.
This season Banjaqui, valued at one million euros, has made 19 competitive appearances for Benfica. They comprise eight in the Liga Portugal Meu Super, three in the UEFA Youth League, three in the Liga Revelação, two in the Liga Portugal Betclic and one in the Taça de Portugal. Across 1,139 minutes he has one goal and one assist.
