Benfica have been dealt a setback in their pursuit of Stije Resink, with Groningen head coach Dick Lukkien saying he thinks the midfielder will stay this season, according to Glorioso 1904.
Lukkien said the club hierarchy had been very clear on the matter and he believes Resink will remain. He added that, as things stand, all signs point to the 22-year-old staying until the end of the campaign.
Resink recently addressed the winter speculation, noting talk of Benfica, who are in the Champions League, and admitted he does not know what will happen.
The Groningen captain is under contract until 2028 and his form has drawn interest from Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord. He is also being watched by clubs in England, Germany, Spain and Türkiye.
This season he has made 21 appearances for Groningen, 20 in the Eredivisie and one in the cup, totalling 1,857 minutes. He has four goals and five assists and is valued at 7 million euros.
