Benfica will not move for Wesley in this transfer window, with the dossier now closed, according to Glorioso 1904. Rui Costa’s hierarchy assessed the deal in detail and chose a different route to strengthen José Mourinho’s squad.
The main obstacle is Al Nassr’s stance. The club only plan to release the youngster once Sadio Mané returns from the Africa Cup of Nations, which clashes with Benfica’s wish for an immediate addition for the second half of the season.
Another priority has been set. A deal for André Luiz with Rio Ave is well advanced and is expected to cost 15 million euros including add-ons and a percentage of any future sell-on.
As a result, attention turns fully to the Portuguese market.
Valued at 5 million euros, Wesley has made 16 appearances for Al Nassr this season, across seven in the Saudi league, five in the AFC Champions League Two, two in the Super Cup and two in the King’s Cup. In 964 minutes he has scored four goals and supplied one assist.
