Anatoliy Trubin’s post-match reaction ignited anger among Benfica supporters, with tensions spilling over after the 2-2 draw at Famalicão.
Benfica led through Andreas Schjelderup and Richard Ríos before Famalicão responded after the break, leaving José Mourinho’s side pegged back. According to Glorioso 1904, emotions were running high at full time and the refereeing was contentious.
Footage circulating online shows the Ukrainian goalkeeper appearing to place a finger to his lips towards supporters, seemingly unhappy with behaviour in the closing stages. He was then targeted with insults from Benfica fans present in the ground.
The incident escalated when Trubin refused to join team-mates by the stand to acknowledge the fans, despite the urging of Simão Sabrosa, Benfica’s technical director.
Instead he walked straight to the dressing room, prompting a loud backlash from those in the stands who made their displeasure clear.
