Benfica have expressed regret after UEFA shelved the club’s complaint over an incident involving Real Madrid’s Valverde in the first leg of the Champions League play-off.

On Tuesday, the club said in a statement that, despite video evidence of an act of aggression against Samuel Dahl, UEFA had chosen not to take disciplinary action, adding it was a clear red card missed on the night and not punished afterwards.

The complaint concerned an incident in the first leg of the play-off for a place in the Champions League round of 16.

Benfica’s response followed UEFA’s decision to archive the case.

The second leg is on Wednesday, 25 February, at 20:00 at the Bernabéu, with television coverage on Sport TV5.
