Benfica prepare permanent bid for Bayern’s Palhinha | OneFootball

Benfica have renewed their push for João Palhinha, shifting from a loan to a permanent deal after Bayern Munich rejected their opening approach.

According to BuLi News, the Portuguese club are ready to table a permanent offer, with the €25 million-plus fee potentially spread across two seasons to ease the outlay for the 31-year-old.

Bayern have signalled they want a definitive resolution rather than another loan. Palhinha returned to Munich this summer following a 2025/26 spell at Tottenham Hotspur, where he made 45 appearances and scored seven goals before Spurs opted against a permanent move.

The midfielder is not viewed as part of Vincent Kompany’s long-term plans, and Bayern are seeking a buyer while waiting for the strongest proposal. Sporting director Max Eberl has indicated the club remain open to different solutions.

Benfica’s interest is also sporting. Manager Marco Silva worked closely with Palhinha at Fulham and is reportedly desperate to work with him again, viewing the Portugal international as an ideal fit.

Palhinha has previously left the door ajar to a Benfica return, having spent part of his youth career there before establishing himself at Sporting CP, Braga and Fulham. Newcastle United have also emerged as contenders as they hunt an experienced central midfielder following major summer changes.
