Benfica have decided to let Henrique Araújo leave in January, clearing room for a new striker who fits José Mourinho's profile.

According to Glorioso 1904, a new centre-forward, ideally to compete with Vangelis Pavlidis, would leave Araújo without any squad role, and the club have set out the terms of his departure, with Lorenzo Lucca among potential options, a complex deal as he is on loan at Napoli.

Instead of a loan, the plan is a permanent transfer. The Rui Costa-led hierarchy are willing to negotiate with any club, and there is interest in Portugal and abroad.

Araújo, Benfica’s number 39, is valued at two million euros. He has featured in 12 official matches this season, five in Liga Portugal Betclic, four in the Champions League, one in Liga Portugal Meu Super, one in the Supertaça and one in the Taça de Portugal.

Across 135 minutes on the pitch, he has not recorded any direct contribution.
