Andreas Samaris is returning to Benfica to begin his coaching career after a deal was finalised.
According to Glorioso 1904, the former Greece international will join the club’s academy setup, tasked with passing on top-level experience to younger players.
He represented Benfica for seven seasons from 2014 to 2021, making 196 official appearances. During that time he lifted eight trophies, including four league titles, and became a popular midfielder among supporters.
Since retiring as a player, he has moved into coaching education, starting the UEFA B+A course in May. His return comes only a few years after he brought his playing career to a close.
The appointment marks the official start of Samaris’s time in the dugout, with a focus on developing Benfica’s next generation and reinforcing the competitive culture he embodied at the club.
