Meetings between the parties, including the player's agent, are planned to try to narrow differences. The report adds there are indications in Italy that Benfica are considering a formal offer to gain an advantage.

Venezia maintain a firm stance, not entertaining offers under 15 million euros. Roma, Milan and Fiorentina lead the chase, with Inter, Atalanta and Monza also interested.

Doumbia fits José Mourinho's desired midfield profile, noted for physical power, ball carrying and late runs into the box. After helping Venezia win promotion to Serie A, he is viewed as a summer priority for Benfica.

This season he has played 37 matches and 3,099 minutes for Venezia, scoring nine goals with five assists. He is valued at eight million euros.
