According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica intend to keep pursuing Rio Ave forward André Luiz, despite his subdued display in Rio Ave’s home game against Benfica on 17 January.
Club figures, led by Rui Costa, were not impressed by the Brazilian winger’s performance, yet still believe he would strengthen José Mourinho’s squad.
The 23-year-old voiced his dissatisfaction with that showing on social media. Benfica also noted his reaction when he was substituted by Sotiris Silaidopoulos, refusing to greet the coach on reaching the bench.
An impasse over the sums discussed has slowed Benfica’s push and shifted attention towards Rafa Silva, though efforts to finalise a deal for André Luiz are set to continue.
This season for Rio Ave, he has played 19 games, 18 in Liga Portugal Betclic and one in the Taça de Portugal, across 1,463 minutes, scoring seven and supplying five assists.
He is valued at four million euros and has a contract through June 2029.
