Benfica’s €17m summer signing Jakub Kaminski has slipped out of Marco Silva’s plans, with the 24-year-old Polish winger benched amid Gianluca Prestianni’s rise.
According to Glorioso 1904, Kaminski began pre-season as a starter and featured against St. Gallen, but his displays did not convince the head coach.
Before the Estoril match, Silva stressed that selection is driven by competition rather than fees, citing Lukebakio and Ríos and their recent minutes. He questioned dropping Prestianni to accommodate Kaminski and said he would make the best calls for the next game.
In recent games against Aarhus and Estoril, Kaminski did not leave the bench, leaving his season’s tally at 163 minutes.
Competition in the forward line has intensified with Andreas Schjelderup back from World Cup duty with Norway.
After four seasons in German football, the former Cologne winger, who wears number 27, now has to work to reclaim a place in Benfica’s attack.
