Bottom of Ligue 1 with the division’s worst defensive record, Metz are still leaking goals on Benoît Tavenot’s watch, and the coach accepts he has not fixed the issue since taking over on 20 January.

According to L'Équipe, Metz have conceded 60 league goals, with 20 shipped in 8 matches under Tavenot. That run features 7 defeats and one draw and has extended their winless sequence to 14 games, comprising 12 losses and 2 draws.

Reflecting on last Sunday’s 3-4 loss to Toulouse, Tavenot lamented that individual mistakes are not being covered, noting that nobody corrected a team-mate’s error for any of the four goals.

He maintained that there were at least signs of improvement against TFC, comparing it to the 0-3 at Lens, which he regards as the worst display of his tenure.

With survival hopes slim, the Lorraine coach is clinging to any incremental progress as he searches for a defensive solution.
