Valencia are pursuing midfield and defensive reinforcements this window, with Wilfried Ndidi among the options. The Nigeria international has sustained a hamstring problem at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Besiktas have issued a statement without setting a return date.
Ndidi left Nigeria’s match against Algeria in the 70th minute with pain in his left hamstring. The club said in a statement that scans showed a strain with bleeding in the biceps femoris, assessed by Nigeria’s medical staff, and that treatment has begun. No timeframe was provided.
It is unclear how this might affect his short-term future or whether interested clubs will have to rule him out. The setback comes after a run as a regular for Besiktas.
Valencia, despite their win over Getafe, remain in a delicate position and need to address clear shortcomings. The club has prioritised centre-back and central midfield, with Corberán seeking more muscle and tempo in the middle.
Among the options under consideration are Frank Onyeka and Ndidi, who fit the profile sought for the midfield.
