Premier League

Chelsea vs Liverpool

Chelsea were touted as dark horses for the 2025/26 Premier League season after sending shockwaves throughout the world with their Club World Cup success.

However, Enzo Maresca’s side have blown hot and cold and are already trailing Saturday’s visitors by a sizeable gap.

The Blues have recorded just two wins from six Premier League games (D2, L2), but they’ll welcome the reigning champions to Stamford Bridge on the back of a 1-0 Champions League win against Benfica.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will be hoping to halt their mini-slump in London, having lost consecutive games for the first time since March.

The Reds were outmuscled by Turkish champions Galatasaray in the Champions League and will have to win at the Bridge for the first time in five years to avoid going three games without a win.

From all indications, this contest could live up to the hype as one of the biggest Premier League games in October.

Arsenal vs West Ham United

After banishing the Newcastle United curse last time out, Arsenal will hope to claim top spot with a win against West Ham United, even if for only a few hours.

The Gunners closed the gap on Liverpool to two points last time out and will look to extend their winning streak to four games on the trot when they face West Ham at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have lost just four of their last 42 home games in the Premier League, but two of those losses came against Saturday’s visitors.

New West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo will hope to keep that shocking run going in search of his first win at the club.

West Ham have won their last two games away to Arsenal without conceding a single goal.

The only other team to beat the Gunners away from home in three consecutive league games or more is Manchester City, but the travelling crowd will head to the Emirates with subdued expectations.

Everton vs Crystal Palace

Everton host FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday in one of the most eye-catching fixtures of the weekend.

This might not be the most glamorous fixture on offer in this weekend’s round of Premier League action, but fans will be expecting plenty of fireworks.

The Toffees have enjoyed a bright start to the season, picking up eight points from their opening six games (W2, D2, L2). But they’re up against a Palace side that has forgotten what defeat feels like.

Oliver Glasner’s high-flying Eagles have gone 19 games unbeaten in all competitions, but facing Everton away has always been their Achilles heel.

Palace haven’t won away at Everton in over a decade and have only picked up points in two of their last eight visits (D2, L6).

La Liga

Real Madrid vs Villarreal

Real Madrid were shell-shocked last weekend when they were handed a 5-2 thrashing at the home of capital rivals Atletico Madrid.

After winning their opening six league games in a row, Los Blancos were handed a harsh reality check about what it’ll take to go all the way this season.

Xabi Alonso’s side responded with a 5-0 win against Kairat Almaty in the Champions League and will now be looking to pick up where they left off when they face Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid beat Villarreal home and away last season, but they could have a much bigger fight on their hands this time around.

The Yellow Submarine have flown out of the blocks this season and are just two points behind Saturday’s hosts and three behind the reigning La Liga champions.

Sevilla vs Barcelona

Barcelona will be looking to bounce back from a mid-week disappointment when they take on Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium on Sunday.

Hansi Flick’s troops were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline against a significantly weakened Paris Saint-Germain side in one of the most anticipated Champions League fixtures of the season.

PSG were without a host of first-team stars, including Marquinhos, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, Joao Neves and Ousmane Dembele.

But they still did enough to put Barca to the sword. Flick’s side will now turn their attention to La Liga duties, where they still have an unbeaten record to protect.

A 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano at the end of August is the only blemish in Barca’s near-perfect La Liga record of six wins from seven games.

Since that stalemate, they’ve won four league games on the trot and are overwhelming favourites to make it five in a row against Sevilla.

Serie A

Juventus vs AC Milan

One of the heavyweight fixtures of the weekend takes place in Serie A, where Italian juggernauts Juventus and AC Milan collide at the Allianz Stadium.

Manager Massimiliano Allegri returns to his old stomping ground, having made an instant impact at Milan.

He has overseen a complete tactical overhaul that has taken Milan to the top of the Serie A table after just five games.

If there was ever any doubt that the Italian tactician is the right man for the job, last weekend’s 2-1 win against reigning champions Napoli dispelled that notion.

He now needs to do the same against Juventus, with just one point separating both sides ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster.

Inter Milan vs Cremonese

With two of the top four going head-to-head, Inter Milan will be looking to creep up the table and close the gap on the league leaders when they host Cremonese.

Cristian Chivu’s side have shaken off back-to-back defeats against Udinese and Juventus to win four games in a row across all competitions. They’ve also kept three clean sheets in that run.

With their domestic form trending in the right direction, Inter must find a way to end Cremonense’s unbeaten record and extend their winning streak to five games.

A win will take them up to 12 points, which bodes well with at least one of Milan and Juventus poised to drop points this weekend.

Ligue 1

Lille vs PSG

PSG suffered their first domestic defeat of the season in a 1-0 loss against Olympique Marseille, but they returned to winning ways against Auxerre, running out 2-0 winners.

They made light work of La Liga champions Barca in the Champions League, and the European champions will be keen to repeat that trick against Lille on Sunday.

Luis Enrique was forced to field a patched-up squad against Barca, but they got the job done. With a host of key players sidelined, he’d be hoping his makeshift XI can maintain their momentum.

History hasn’t been kind to Lille in this fixture. They haven’t beaten PSG since April 2021, but that was in Paris. You have to go back six years for the last time Lille beat PSG on their own turf.

Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig

Borussia Dortmund have been one of the most entertaining teams in the Bundesliga this season, and Saturday’s mouth-watering clash with RB Leipzig should provide even more fireworks.

Der BVB got off the mark in the Champions League last time out, powering to a 4-1 thrashing of Athletic Club. Niko Kovac’s side have now won three games on the trot and are still unbeaten this season.

They’ve won six of their eight games in all competitions, averaging 2.5 goals per match.

However, that unbeaten record will face a serious threat this weekend, with Leipzig visiting Signal Iduna Park.

Die Roten Bullen have been in flying form under new manager Ole Werner, winning their last four games and keeping three clean sheets on the way.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayern Munich

Eintracht Frankfurt played out a 10-goal classic against Borussia Monchengladbach last time out.

They won 6-4, but the result could have been a lot more comfortable if they hadn’t taken their foot off the gas in the closing stages.

Frankfurt failed to build on that win and were handed a 5-1 mauling by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Dino Toppmoller’s side have lost three of their last five games, alternating between wins and defeats in that period.

However, that cycle could be broken this weekend as they host the unstoppable Bayern Munich.

Vincent Kompany’s side have been on a rampage this season, winning all nine games in all competitions.

They have scored 22 times in the Bundesliga, although Frankfurt are hot on their trail with 17.

Bayern have created 29 big chances in five league games, more than any other team in the league, and their defensive record has been rock-solid.

They’ve conceded the joint-fewest goals (three), although they’ve managed just two clean sheets in their last seven games in all competitions.
