‘Better Suited’ – Scottish League Works Against Rangers In Transfer Pursuit | OneFootball

Rangers are facing an uphill task in their pursuit of Couhaib Driouech as the winger ‘favours a move to La Liga’ as he feels the league suits him better than the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers pursued the Moroccan during the 2024 summer window before his eventual switch to PSV Eindhoven, a move which kept him in the Netherlands.

The Glasgow giants recently reignited their interest as they looked to further strengthen their wide options on the back of signing Daisuke Yokota.

In an effort to accelerate a deal, Rangers lodged an opening bid worth €7.5m, only for PSV to reject the proposal as they held firm on a valuation between €8m and €8.5m

Rangers were expected to make up the small difference in further talks, while they also received word that Driouech was open to a move to Ibrox, although personal terms were not agreed.

The picture has, however, shifted since Celta Vigo entered the frame, with the La Liga outfit swiftly moving to the head of the queue.

Now according to Africafoot, Moroccan winger Driouech ‘favours a move to La Liga’, with Celta Vigo emerging as his preferred destination.

The 24-year-old is understood to view La Liga as ‘better suited to his technical profile and sporting ambitions’, a development that represents a setback for Rangers’ hopes of taking the winger to the Scottish Premiership.

The Os Celestes, however, still need to strike an agreement with PSV, who are not expected to ease their valuation of what they regard as ‘a highly valuable asset’, while the Spanish side hope to utilise the Moroccan’s preference to ‘sway the deal’.

Whether the Scottish giants can still produce a late twist in their favour remains to be seen.

The current indications, however, point firmly towards Celta Vigo prevailing in the race for Driouech, forcing Rangers to redirect their attention elsewhere.

Another name featuring prominently on the Gers’ winger shortlist is Fares Ghedjemis, although that pursuit also carries its own complications with Monaco actively pressing to secure the Algerian.

Derek McInnes’ side were first held in their Scottish Premiership opener before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Jagiellonia in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier on Thursday, further underlining the need for reinforcements.
