Bettoni, Msaidie, Barthez, Dupont named in Zinédine Zidane’s France staff | OneFootball

The French Football Federation announced that Zinédine Zidane’s backroom staff for the national team comprises seven members, with Fabien Barthez to oversee the goalkeepers. Only one figure from Didier Deschamps’s era remains.

Assistant David Bettoni first met Zidane at AS Cannes in 1988. Seen as the tactical mind at Real Madrid, he took charge of two matches in January 2021 when Zidane had Covid. His sole spell as head coach lasted two months at Sion in 2023.

Hamidou Msaidie continues as the second assistant, as at Real. A qualified physiotherapist and fasciatherapist, he works between the pitch and the performance set-up, running drills and monitoring injuries through the physios. He also prepares motivational video for the squad.

Grégory Dupont arrives as strategic and performance adviser. He led France’s physical preparation during the 2018 World Cup triumph, then joined Zidane at Real in summer 2019, a move Deschamps did not welcome. In 2025 he became director of football at Red Star.

Stéphane Plancque, a former Bordeaux team-mate of Zidane from 1992 to 1994, handled opposition analysis at Real. Zidane and Bettoni place considerable trust in his reports.

Farid Tabet, a close ally of Bettoni, coached Cannet-Rocheville from 2011 to 2014 and 2015 to 2024. The N3 club reached its first Coupe de France last 32 in December 2021, losing 1-4 to Marseille at the Orange Vélodrome.

Clément Ybert remains in post as assistant video analyst, the only holdover. He worked as video analyst with France’s women from 2011 to 2024 before moving to Deschamps’s staff.
