Mika Godts will be sidelined for a while at Ajax. The 19-year-old Belgian winger suffered a torn hamstring during the Amsterdam club’s 2-2 draw with FC Twente and is expected to be out for at least a month.
The day after the draw against Twente, Godts was medically tested and now it appears that he is temporarily unavailable. Godts’ situation will be reviewed weekly, but the matches against PEC Zwolle, Real Sociedad, FC Utrecht, AZ and Lazio all look likely be missed.
Godts’ injury comes at an unfortunate time for Ajax. Not only because he was becoming an increasingly impressive starlet for Francesco Farioli’s side, but also because Ajax are particularly thin on wingers.
The club sold Steven Bergwijn to Al-Ittihad, loaned Carlos Forbs to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and missed out on Kamaldeen Sulemana, leaving Godts as the only left winger.
The expectation is that Farioli will tackle the absence of Godts by moving players around. Furthermore, the upcoming transfer window will see Ajax target a new winger too.
So far this term, the Genk youth product has six goals in 20 games in all competitions and has proven particularly handy in the Europa League. There, he has notched four goals in nine games.
