Mikey Johnston has reportedly rejected interest from Turkey and the Premier League to help steer West Brom to Championship safety.
West Brom winger Mikey Johnston reportedly rejected interest from Trabzonspor and an unnamed Premier League club during the final hours of the transfer window, and has stayed to help Albion retain their Championship status.
This was reported by the Express & Star’s Lewis Cox, who revealed that the Republic of Ireland international was a sought-after player in the dying embers of the winter transfer window.
On the final day, Johnston was first touted with a move to second-tier rivals Sheffield United, but those rumours were swiftly quashed by Sheffield Star journalist Danny Hall, who outlined that they were wide of the mark.
But now it has appeared that there were a host of teams interested in securing his signature, with the Baggies seemingly willing to part ways with the winger if he wanted the move.
But it is the player who has rejected these approaches and has opted to remain in B71, determined to help play a big part in dragging the Black Country outfit away from the relegation mire.

As per a report by the Express & Star this morning, it has been revealed that West Brom attacker Mikey Johnston rejected moves to a number of sides in the final stages of the winter transfer window, in favour of staying at The Hawthorns and remaining a part of their relegation battle.
One of the clubs who saw an offer rebuffed is believed to be Turkish giants Trabzonspor, while the article also claims an unnamed Premier League club wanted to lure him away to the big time.
But Johnston has elected to remain in the fight with West Brom, as they look to steer themselves away from relegation danger after a very poor start to life under Eric Ramsay.
The Baggies could well be placed inside the bottom three come the end of this evening if Blackburn Rovers win their game in hand at home to Sheffield Wednesday, putting massive pressure on their weekend clash against Stoke City at The Hawthorns.
With only 16 games remaining of the season, there’s a stark realisation emerging that West Brom could well be a third-tier side come the end of the campaign, but their hopes of surviving have taken a massive boost by their most creative outlet remaining on the books.

With West Brom plunged towards the wrong end of the Championship table, it could have been easy for Mikey Johnston to walk away and continue to develop his career in a much more uplifting environment.
You could have definitely made the case for him given his struggles working under Eric Ramsay too, with the Republic of Ireland international bound to be frustrated by the constant changing of roles in his setup.
His dip in form has been paralleled with Ramsay’s arrival. The Welsh coach has chopped and changed his position far too many times, with Johnston unable to settle into one specific attacking role and unleash the damage that was previously seen under the tenure of Ryan Mason.
So far, Johnston has been used as a right-wing-back, on both flanks further forward and as a central attacking midfielder, with the change of role and responsibilities game-after-game leading to a deterioration of confidence.
But the fact he is up for the fight and willing to stay on is a massive plus, with his two goals and nine assists in such a struggling team a suggestion that he is going to play a massive part in lifting the club up the table.
It’s not too often in the modern game you see such a showing of loyalty, but Albion fans will be so grateful he has as much of their survival hopes rest on his shoulders.
This decision could be season-defining as far as West Brom are concerned, but Ramsay must make use of this slice of luck and refuse to tamper with his most effective attacking option any longer, if they are to avoid the League One trapdoor.
