James Morrison has provided an update ahead of West Brom’s Championship opener at Norwich, with Tammer Bany set to miss out, Mikey Johnston not ready to start, and Harry Whitwell back in training.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Jordan international Bany has followed a tailored fitness plan and trained well after repeated setbacks since arriving from Randers in January 2025 for £3.3 million. He has yet to make a competitive start and sustained another knock on the final day at Sheffield Wednesday.

He played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Coventry last week, and skipping the EFL Cup tie at Rotherham was planned to keep him working with the group. Morrison intends to keep him on the grass and continue building his fitness.

On Johnston’s return from a broken ankle, Morrison said they are still working and building him, and that he will judge readiness from what he sees in training. He noted the winger offers different attributes and options that aid the team’s flexibility, and wants to restore Johnston’s excitement in performance.

Youngster Whitwell, who went off as a precaution at Rotherham with a calf issue, has been back in training.
