Sunderland defender Omar Alderete is said to be drawing interest from an unnamed, higher-profile club ahead of the summer window.
According to Versus, the Paraguay international is on the radar of a club of greater renown than Sunderland, with any approach suggested to follow this summer’s World Cup, where he is expected to star. The report also says no bids or talks have taken place, and characterises any move as a major step up.
Alderete joined from Getafe for a modest fee after Sunderland’s promotion back to the Premier League last year. He has since become a cornerstone of Regis Le Bris’ defence alongside Dan Ballard.
The centre-back has one goal and one assist from 24 league appearances. His consistency has been noted against elite opponents.
A January 0-0 draw with Manchester City at the Stadium of Light brought particular praise, with claims he largely contained Erling Haaland. Performances against Liverpool have also been cited.
Alderete is contracted to Sunderland until 2029. Given the lack of specifics or a named suitor, the current chatter remains speculative.
