Arne Slot’s Liverpool side have been immense this season, and the Dutchman has done an excellent job in filling the hole left by the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

When Klopp announced he would be leaving the club in January many supporters worried that a period of decline would follow, but this hasn’t been the case so far.

The Reds are flying under their new head coach and currently sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, having won 15 of their opening 17 games in all competitions.

Klopp himself has also moved on as he prepares to take on a new role as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer, which he starts in January.

Klopp has already been busy with his new role however and Red Bull were recently involved in the takeover of Paris FC, although the principal owners are the Arnault family - one of the richest families in the world.

Konate’s Paris FC return “is a possibility”

Speaking about the takeover Antoine Arnault, son of one of the world’s richest men Bernard, shared Klopp’s involvement in the takeover.

“Klopp is very excited about the project” Arnault told RMC Sport. “We’ve already spent quite a bit of time with [Red Bull]. I’ve had several conversations with Klopp, and he’s very excited about the project and the prospect of working with the teams here.”

When asking about whether the takeover could see Paris FC try and recruit some former players to strengthen the side, Ibrahima Konate’s name was specifically mentioned as an example by RMC Sport.

“The idea is to train young players.” Arnault replied. “After that, if a former player trained at the club wants to return and become part of the club’s core structure, why not? It’s a possibility, but not the group’s main strategy.”

How realistic is a Konate return to Paris FC?

Although Antione Arnault admitted that the return of former players was a possibility, and Konate was the example given to him when he was asked the question, it seems very unlikely that a return to Paris FC is on the cards anytime soon for the Frenchman.

The club currently sit top of Ligue 2 but they haven’t played in the French top flight since 1979 and have been in the third tier as recently as 2017.

Konate has become a key figure at Liverpool, and although he has ties to both Paris FC and the Red Bull group, it doesn’t seem probable that he would take that step down just yet.

This does leave the door open for a Konate return later in his career, as the project at Paris FC is likely to be a long-term one, but Liverpool supporters shouldn’t be panicking that one of their best defenders could be on the way back to his former club in January.
