Blues are looking to strengthen in several positions in the upcoming window
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Birmingham City's upcoming January transfer plans have reportedly emerged, and they could have a major influence on what the remainder of the Championship campaign holds for Chris Davies and his side.
Transfer activity in this part of the world has certainly captured the imagination of many ever since Knighthead Capital Management took the club on in July 2023, which included a record-breaking eight-figure spend to lure their rebuild posterboy, Jay Stansfield, from Fulham on a permanent basis almost 18 months ago.
It must be said, though, that of the 14 signings that were made by Blues following their record-breaking campaign in League One last term, there have been extremely varying levels of success.
The likes of Demarai Gray - who returned to his boyhood club on a free transfer - plus Wolves and Sunderland loanees in the form of Tommy Doyle and Patrick Roberts have all been major hits.
However, the jury very much remains out on the likes of Eiran Cashin, Jack Robinson - who started his Blues spell in disastrous personal fashion - and £10m recruit, Kyogo Furuhashi, who still remains without a league goal.
Football League World exclusively revealed at the start of December that Blues were looking to recruit a natural left-back to provide competition for Alex Cochrane. This very much remains the case, although Football Insider have since claimed that the club are looking to add further reinforcements in central midfield and attack.
These are developments which have been welcomed by FLW's Blues fan pundit, Jason Moore.

The identity of the players which Blues are targeting in the aforementioned positions are yet to be revealed.
However, this comes after FLW's revelation that Lee Buchanan is expected to depart on loan, whilst Davies has revealed that he wouldn't stand in the way of Lyndon Dykes if there was an opportunity for the previous Hibernian and Preston North End target to depart ahead of Scotland's upcoming FIFA World Cup campaign.
As such, Moore believes that an incoming in those three departments, as well as a potential shake-up at right-back, would make for a rather satisfactory January transfer window at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.
"That, to me, sounds exactly where my headspace was," he told FLW. "I was having this discussion the other day, and I think a powerhouse in midfield is key.
"Especially away from home, we look really, really lightweight. This league, especially away from home, is killing the likes of Paik (Seung-ho).
"As much as I love Paik and Tommy Doyle, those two, together, as great as they are, they are quite lightweight, and I don't expect them to barge players off the ball, or for them to get barged off it quite easily as they're quite small," Moore explained.
"A powerhouse midfielder sounds fantastic. I think a striker, if they're going to get one, needs to be another powerhouse, someone who can play up top on his own.
"(Marvin) Ducksch has been OK, but he's too hit-and-miss. For someone who's got his height, he doesn't attempt to jump for the ball, which is quite frustrating.
"I think, if you got a player of his quality, mixed with Lyndon Dykes' aerial ability, you're on to a winner," he stated. "A big striker up top would be wonderful, and maybe get rid of Kyogo.
"Left-back is obvious," Moore claimed. "You've got two right-backs that we're not going to have until at least February, as Bright Osayi-Samuel is at AFCON and Ethan Laird is injured.
"You've got Tomoki Iwata playing there and he's not a proper right-back, but I can understand why we wouldn't sign another. Then, at left-back, you only have Cochrane.
"Buchanan is injured until January or February, but then he's not going to be match fit. Left-back, 100 percent, getting in someone who understands they probably won't play every game (is key).
"I'd be happy with those three positions.
"If you're pushing me, I would probably like another winger and centre-back when Eiran Cashin goes, as we're going to need that," Moore continued.
"Our options off the bench, in terms of wingers, aren't good enough. Keshi Anderson's not up to scratch and Koumas is just young and raw.
"I feel for him, but he needs to play regularly and he won't be with us. I imagine he will go back and we need to replace him."

Indeed, it is looking like an intriguing January window is in store for Blues, who are currently just outside the play-off places, and the areas which they are reportedly looking at strengthening have been identified as key areas, not just by club staff, but those in the stands and the outside amid recent below-par performances.
As Moore referenced, Koumas has been the subject of potential recall talk after a distinct lack of starts on loan from Liverpool, whilst reports have emerged that Birmingham are set to rival FA Cup holders, Crystal Palace, for the services of FC Basel winger, Philip Otele, who could be acquired for a sum in the regions of €8m to €10m.
It is clearly a potential make-or-break period for the Second City club, who will be hoping to use their lofty future ambitions as a tool to lure some top talent and further depth into Davies' current squad.
