FLW has rounded up the latest headlines at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park

Birmingham City's remaining matches in the Championship have very little riding on them, which has certainly disappointed the locals at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

Ultimately, a 150th anniversary season which promised so much after a record-breaking campaign in League One has petered out into mid-table obscurity, despite the fact ownership group, Knighthead Capital Management, have continued to plough hefty sums of investment into all aspects of the club, both on and off the pitch.

After two major recruitment drives in the summer and winter, it was hoped that Chris Davies and his side were to kick on and mount a late surge for the Championship's play-off positions for the first time in 14 years.

However, a dire run of form before the final international break of the 2025/26 season put pay to those hopes and dreams, even though recent results and performances have showcased an upsurge, having taken four points from a possible six against play-off chasing Wrexham and Hull City in back-to-back games.

As such, there is very little reason for excitement ahead of the remaining matches against Preston North End, Bristol City and Portsmouth, with eyes firmly cast on what big changes could be made ahead of a critical pre-season.

With that said, Football League World have rounded up the latest major headlines to come out of B9.

Birmingham City to plot ambitious Thomas Frank managerial move if Chris Davies is dismissed

Given Birmingham's underperformance in the eyes of many, the aforementioned Davies has been the subject of many sack calls and reports throughout the season.

Those have failed to dissipate heading towards the end of the current campaign, as well as it being claimed that director of football, Craig Gardner, is also feeling the heat.

It remains to be seen exactly who could land the job if the 41-year-old was to be relieved of his duties after two years in charge at St. Andrew's, but FLW have exclusively revealed that former Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford boss, Thomas Frank, is a man Knighthead could set their sights on with an ambitious move.

The 52-year-old is currently out of work after being dismissed by Spurs in February after an eight-game winless run in the Premier League, with it being revealed that his overall tenure cost the North London outfit in excess of £23m.

However, it has also been reported by one of FLW's sister publications, FootballFanCast, that Scottish Premiership giants, Celtic, are also exploring a move for Frank, with Martin O'Neill currently overseeing a second spell of interim charge this season following the permanent exits of Brendan Rodgers and Wilfried Nancy.

Carlos Vicente makes honest Birmingham City, Tom Brady admission amid Premier League dream

As previously mentioned, Blues conducted a major squad reshuffle in the winter window, with six new players arriving.

One of those came in the form of Spanish winger, Carlos Vicente, who was acquired for €8m from La Liga outfit, Deportivo Alaves, having previously been a star performer at the Mendizorrotza Stadium.

Although the club's current campaign is now dead in the water when it comes to promotion, the 26-year-old has impressed of late, with goals against Ipswich Town and Wrexham following up his first strike, which came against Norwich City two months ago.

It has been well-documented that the influence of NFL icon, Tom Brady, as Advisory Board Chairman at St. Andrew's, has had a major influence on signings, but Vicente admits that his main lure was the prospect of featuring in the Premier League.

He told Spanish outlet, AS: "No. I was thrilled, but it didn't influence my career decision at all. He's one of my idols and one of the five best athletes in history, but it didn't affect my decision in the slightest.

When asked about potential promotion down the line, Vicente added: "This season, yes (it's a long way off), but it's still my biggest dream. It was one of the reasons I chose to come here. If I didn't know the club had that objective, I probably would have made a different decision. We have a good foundation to try and make our mark next season."

Chris Davies issues Bright Osayi-Samuel update ahead of Preston clash

Although Davies' side's performance in the second half at the MKM Stadium merited a draw against the Tigers, a negative to the 45 minutes was Bright Osayi-Samuel's withdrawal after 50 minutes, with Ethan Laird replacing the Nigerian international.

Osayi-Samuel is yet to win over a large portion of supporters after an inconsistent campaign, during which he has featured 24 times, and it remains to be seen if his leg issue keeps him out against the Lilywhites on Wednesday.

“It was a dead leg,” Davies revealed post-match in HU3. “I think it seized up at half-time and he tried to go on but he couldn’t. I thought Ethan (Laird) came in really well.

“I’m presuming Bright will be OK but we’ll have to see.”
