Birmingham City's FLW fan pundit has shared their thoughts on the club's links with Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt

Birmingham City, having missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs last time around, are looking to make no such error next campaign, as Chris Davies targets more attacking reinforcements.

Birmingham have enjoyed a solid start to their summer transfer window, and with the Championship season right around the corner, the Blues stand in good stead.

Jhon Solis' loan move has become permanent, whilst Dael Fry, Luis Vazquez, and Kristoffer Lund Hansen also join on permanent deals, as James Beadle returns to St Andrews from Brighton and Hove Albion for another loan spell.

However, Davies doesn't look to be done just yet, as a move for a Premier League striker appears to be on the cards.

According to FootballInsider, Birmingham have opened talks with Leeds United over the potential capture of English forward Joe Gelhardt this summer.

The Blues are reportedly looking to secure a loan move for the 24-year-old, who is out of contract next summer, though whether Leeds would agree to such a deal remains to be seen, as it would appear favourable to the West Yorkshire side to recoup a fee whilst they still can.

Gelhardt spent last season on loan in the Championship with Hull City, with whom he scored 14 goals and grabbed four assists in 39 Championship appearances on their way to promotion via the play-offs, as Tigers boss Sergej Jakirovic has been open about his intentions of bringing the forward back this summer.

However, Birmingham are attempting to lure him to the Second City instead, as the Englishman looks destined to finally depart Leeds this summer after six years contracted to the Whites.

Football League World's Birmingham fan pundit, Jason Moore, has shared their thoughts on the club's links with Gelhardt, and whether he's a player he would like to see join Blues this summer.

Jason told FLW: "Yeah, I would love to see Joe Gelhardt. To be fair, he's probably what I've been screaming for all summer.

"Someone that knows the league, Championship experience, proven Championship experience, gets goals, and he can play across that front three, which is probably what we need.

"If I was being nitpicky, I'd probably want someone who's more of a number 10, because I wouldn't say he's a number 10. I don't think he probably knows his best position. Maybe it's coming in from the right, and that's Carlos Vicente's position. But no, on the whole, if we could go and get Gelhardt, go get him!

"That Championship experience is desperately what we need. We need Championship experience and then more physical players. We signed physical players; now we need a bit of finesse up top who know the league. Go get him.

"If Hull can't get him, because obviously I appreciate that Hull's the place he wants to go, Blues should be all over it, and I can't imagine there's many Blues fans that would oppose Blues going and getting him.

"So yeah, I hope we can get it done, because whenever I've seen him, he looks like a good player. So yeah, get him."

With Birmingham seemingly having identified Gelhardt as a serious option this summer, Davies is looking to add a couple more faces to his attacking options before the end of the window, despite the capture of Vazquez recently.

Bournemouth's Daniel Jebbison has also been linked with a move to the Second City, but it would appear, at this stage, that Gelhardt is a higher level of priority than the Canadian.

Davies will know he must, at the very least, secure a play-off spot for Blues next season; otherwise his job will be under intense scrutiny.

Adding Gelhardt to his ranks will more than help his case, as this is one the 41-year-old should look to get over the line as soon as possible.
