Despite Blackburn Rovers making an overly positive start to the new campaign, their transfer activity on deadline day was quiet.

Rovers, under Tony Mowbray, have taken five points from their opening four league matches, with a stalemate away at Lincoln City in midweek meaning they’ve won one, drawn two and lost just once so far this term.

And while many Rovers supporters would have turned their attention to what was going on at the ProAmpac Stadium on Tuesday evening, there was still hope that the club would be bringing in new faces to help bolster the squad over the coming weeks.

It’s raised the question whether Blackburn have done enough work throughout the window, particularly after losing key players this summer like Sonde Tronstad and Ryan Hedges.

With the signing of Gady Beyuku confirmed, it means Blackburn have brought in just four players throughout the transfer window.

Blackburn mainly added to their midfield ranks over the course of this summer, with Moussa Baradji joining from Yverdon Sport, while Sam Morsy joined on a free transfer following his exit from Championship rivals Bristol City.

Blackburn’s only other addition came on the flank, with right-winger Jayden Fevrier signing on the dotted line from Stockport County.

Speaking to Football League World, Blackburn Rovers fan pundit Simon Middlehurst has slammed Head of Football Operations Rudy Gestede and Chief Operating Officer Suhail Pasha for a ‘disaster’ of a transfer window, admitting ‘there’s no words’ to describe how poor their summer spending has been.

Simon told FLW: “Disaster would be putting it nicely.

"There’s no words to explain how this transfer window has panned out. Blackburn fans have had enough. There’s so much dishonesty that comes from Rudy Gestede and Suhail Pasha.

"We’ve got a new CEO in charge, and he hasn’t done anything, so it’s just one thing after another, and it’s never going to change while these people are in charge.

“It’s a really sad state of affairs. Blackburn fans are beyond worried now. The bodies we needed, we lost players. They should have been replaced and they haven’t been.

“So yeah, there are no words to describe what’s happened at all.”

Blackburn Rovers will continue to suffer from a lack of investment

Blackburn Rovers were the least active club in the division when it came to transfers this window, with barely any money spent in the process either.

Bringing in just four players and waving goodbye to nine means the squad is undoubtedly weaker compared to last season, and that is so concerning when Rovers just about battled their way to Championship safety last term.

When the dust settles, Blackburn could well be situated towards the bottom end of the table, and there’s nothing to suggest that they have the bodies or quality to get out of the dogfight this time around.

For all connected with the club, they’ll be hoping Tony Mowbray can weave his magic to drag Blackburn away from the bottom end of the table, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them drop down there given the lack of money that’s been put into the playing squad.

When it comes to the Venky’s, everyone at Blackburn has had enough of their tenure, with the club only going to struggle more and more the longer they remain in their posts.

It could be a dark few weeks and months ahead for the Lancashire outfit, who look far from equipped to take on the relentless challenges that the Championship will bring.
