BlueCo wanted to sign Lecce left back Patrick Dorgu this summer but the deal was too expensive according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Another summer has been and gone with a number of new faces coming through the door at Stamford Bridge, the most high profile of which were Pedro Neto, Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho.

A number of players also left the club including Romelu Lukaku, Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher as Chelsea looked to balance their books.

The Blues also signed a number of youngsters for the future, as has become the norm under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, whilst the club once again sent three players on loan to sister club Strasbourg.

Talented midfielder Andrey Santos returned after spending the second half of last season on loan at the Ligue 1 outfit, whilst youngster Caleb Wiley and surprisingly Djordje Petrovic also made the switch.

By owning Strasbourg it gives BlueCo the chances to sign talented youngsters with a view to having a future at Chelsea if they do well.

BlueCo wanted to sign Dorgu for Strasbourg this summer.

One such player identified was Lecce left back Dorgu, and Romano has provided an update on why the deal didn’t happen in the end.

“Patrick Dorgu was on the list of BlueCo, and the idea was to sign him for Strasbourg with a potential Chelsea future, but the deal was too expensive. Lecce wanted more than £25m-£29m,” he told his YouTube channel.

Dorgu, who currently plays for Serie A side Lecce is a full Denmark international and scored on his debut on Thursday night in a 2-0 victory against Switzerland.

The 19-year-old made 34 appearances in all competitions last season for Lecce and is clearly one to watch for the future.

However, if he has another good season it’s unlikely his price is going to drop and it will be interesting to see if BlueCo go back in again next summer or change their stance on the price they are prepared to pay.
