Zvonimir Boban says Teun Koopmeiners played out of position in the first half of Villarreal vs. Juventus last night, while Francisco Conceiçao can make a ‘further step forward’ with more ‘maturity and calm.’
Boban analysed Juventus’ 2-2 draw against Villarreal on Wednesday night as one of the Sky Sport Italia pundits.
Koopmeiners started the game as an attacking midfielder, but was subbed off and replaced by Conceiçao after a terrible first-half performance.
The Portuguese winger inspired Juventus’ attacks in the second half and scored a goal that gave the Bianconeri a temporary lead.
“I think he changed Juventus. Obviously, we can ask ourselves why he didn’t start,” Boban said about Conceiçao.
Conceiçao had just returned from an injury, having missed the previous league game against Atalanta.
“I think he’s a player with great one-v-one skills, he easily changes direction and pace and makes the right passes, but he lacks a bit of maturity and calm,” Boban continued.
“He’ll get there and once he does, he’ll make a further step forward. There aren’t many players with this quality in the one-v-one, perhaps not even Yildiz.”
The other side of the coin saw Koopmeiners struggle as an attacking midfielder, but Boban feels the Dutchman should be used in a different position.

“I’m sorry about Koopmeiners because they move him here and there. He’s a No.8,” he said.
“We’ve all said he was overpaid because he’s not worth €60m. It’s hard to say how much, maybe €20m or €25m. It doesn’t really matter, but he’s a good player, and he must be revived. Playing him on the right helped Conceiçao make the difference.”
Juventus are still unbeaten this season but have collected four consecutive draws across all competitions and their next game is at home against Milan on Sunday.
