Leandro Paredes asked to be substituted during Boca’s Copa Argentina last-16 match against Vélez, triggering concern ahead of the Libertadores quarter-final with San Pablo.
According to SuperDepor.com, Boca are monitoring the midfielder’s fitness. The captain felt discomfort in his left hamstring at 42 minutes of the second half and was replaced by Alan Velasco.
Head coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena said the problem is not serious, noting it was a warning sign amid a heavy run of games with limited rotation for some players.
Paredes has had little rest, returning to play for Boca only a few days after the World Cup final.
He is therefore not expected to miss the Libertadores quarter-final, which begins in five days, with the first leg on Tuesday 8 September at 21:30 in La Bombonera and the return a week later at Estadio Morumbí.
Arruabarrena is considering giving him the weekend off when Boca visit Gimnasia de Mendoza for the eighth round of the Torneo Clausura in the Liga Profesional de Fútbol.
In that competition, Boca are eighth in Zone A with only 10 points, so their margin for error is slim, as a slip could leave them outside the playoff places.
