Boca have agreed terms for 18 months or one year with an option to extend by another year. He would join the Uruguayan Leandro Lozano and Colombians Sebastián Villa and Álvaro Montero.

Valencia is a free agent after his contract with Pachuca of Mexico expired at the end of June.

The move was pursued at the request of head coach Arruabarrena, who wanted an experienced striker to cover Adam Bareiro. The Paraguayan has a lumbar disc problem and lingering issues after a previous double muscle tear, leaving him sidelined indefinitely.

He has been ruled out of key Copa Sudamericana and domestic fixtures, with his recovery assessed weekly to determine whether surgery is required.

Despite playing all four of Ecuador’s 2026 World Cup matches, attention has turned to Valencia’s recent injury record. Since 2020/21 he has had 15 separate issues, totalling more than 300 days out.
