Boca Juniors have finalised the transfer of 25-year-old midfielder Kevin Zenón to Atlas of Mexico, drawing a line under a saga that stretched back to last year.

According to SuperDepor.com, the deal was sealed on Wednesday despite coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s wish to keep him, having handed him significant minutes in recent matches.

The late agreement followed a turbulent spell in the club’s relationship with the player. Any recent calm after the arrival of “Vasco” gave way to Zenón’s long-held desire to move abroad.

Since joining from Unión de Santa Fe, the Goya-born midfielder made 92 appearances and scored 11 goals. His latest came in the last round of the Clausura, when he put Boca 2-1 up in Mendoza against Gimnasia y Esgrima before it finished 2-2.

He was an unused substitute on Tuesday against San Pablo in the Copa Sudamericana.

Final terms were not announced, though the fee is thought to be around $6,000,000 for the full rights, with Boca owning 80 percent and Unión the remaining 20.

All parties were satisfied with the conditions, so Zenón will travel immediately to join a side coached by Hernán Crespo. The Guadalajara club sit fifth in Liga MX after seven rounds, play in red and black similar to Newell’s Old Boys, and were managed by Marcelo Bielsa from 1992 to 1994.
