Boca player ratings in the win over Talleres

The analysis of individual performances and player ratings for Boca in their 2-0 victory over Talleres at La Bombonera, in the round of 16 of the Torneo Clausura of the Professional Football League.

To reaffirm that we are contenders. Claudio Úbeda’s team played a good match, overcame T in a tough duel, and made it clear they are in the running to be champions. With goals from Merentiel, the Xeneize are now in the quarterfinals and will face Argentinos Juniors again at La Bombonera.

Agustín Marchesín (8)

After two clean sheets against River and Tigre, the Xeneize goalkeeper repeated the feat and was very important for his team. He saved a difficult penalty near the end of the first half and responded well to every attack.

Juan Barinaga (7)

He wasn’t very sharp in the opening minutes, losing possession and struggling offensively, but as the match went on, he settled into the duel. Game by game, he’s finding his place.

Lautaro Di Lollo (8)

After the suspension that kept him out against Tigre, he returned to the starting eleven and once again had a great match in this shirt. Not only was he solid defensively, but he also won in the air after a cross from Paredes, beating goalkeeper Herrera so that Merentiel could score into an empty net and put Boca ahead.

Ayrton Costa (7)

Like his teammate, he doesn’t disappoint, and with every game, he becomes more established in his position. He was solid in every challenge and had virtually no issues playing out from the back.

Lautaro Blanco (7)

More active than in the match against Tigre, he frequently joined the attack on his side, combining passes with Palacios or Zeballos. He struggled a bit with tracking back, which was evident in the penalty play, where Changuito had to drop back to cover for him. He provided a great cross to Bestia for the second goal.

Leandro Paredes (8)

He controlled the tempo of the match and battled hard against a team that pressed a lot and was strong in transitions. He delivered the cross that found Di Lollo in the play leading to Merentiel’s goal. He left the field to a standing ovation from all of La Bombonera, after another game that confirms his outstanding form.

Milton Delgado (7)

He kept his place in the starting eleven despite doubts over Battaglia’s return, and once again had a good game alongside Paredes in midfield. He showed good recovery and composure in building play from the back.

Carlos Palacios (5)

He has moments of fluidity where he creates dangerous plays and moves the ball well, but he struggles to be consistent and sometimes disappears completely. He should have been substituted much earlier.

Exequiel Zeballos (7)

He couldn’t find his rhythm in the first half, with few offensive contributions and a serious mistake that led to a penalty for the visitors. In the second half, the story changed—he improved and created a couple of dangerous chances that almost ended in goals. He left the field to loud applause for his performance.

Miguel Merentiel (9)

Much more active than in previous games where playing with two strikers didn’t suit him. He set up Gimenez early in the match, capitalized on Di Lollo’s rebound to open the scoring, and sealed the win with an early goal in the second half. He also created several chances for his teammates to extend the lead, but the opposing goalkeeper denied them. His substitution was a bit premature.

Milton Gimenez (5)

At times he presses and bothers the opposing defenders a lot, but he also has moments of carelessness that are starting to annoy the fans. He lost several balls by not putting his foot in strongly enough and missed a clear chance due to a poor finish. Úbeda kept him on the pitch to give him a bit more confidence.

Tomás Belmonte, Edinson Cavani and Ander Herrera (-)

They came on to give the team some fresh legs, but didn’t have much involvement in the match.

Rodrigo Battaglia and Kevin Zenón (-)

They didn’t have much impact as they came on with the match nearly over, but they got some minutes.

Claudio Úbeda (8)

Compared to the last match against Tigre at La Bombonera, the Xeneize coach made two changes and brought back the eleven who beat River in the last Superclásico. His team struggled in the opening minutes against the team from Córdoba, but settled in and secured a good result to advance to the next round. The next match will be a good test against Bicho.
