Vasco da Gama are monitoring Boca Juniors striker Miguel Merentiel with a view to 2026, and Atlético-MG are also interested. Canal Vasco reports that the 29-year-old is among the names on the club’s radar.

According to Transfermarkt, Merentiel’s market value is €6.5 million, around R$ 41 million at current rates, and he is under contract with Boca until 31 December 2027, meaning any deal would require negotiations between the clubs.

Vasco want a centre-forward who could start or at least raise competition in attack. Pablo Vegetti remains an important figure and was decisive in the most recent clássico, but there is a view he may not be at peak form, so an alternative is being considered.

Internally, Merentiel is seen as experienced and comfortable in high-pressure, decisive matches. At Boca he has built a reputation as a combative striker with strong penalty-area presence and intensity, traits that match the profile sought for the next cycle.

The Uruguayan also knows Brazilian football, having been part of Palmeiras’ 2022 Brasileiro title-winning squad and lifting the Campeonato Paulista in 2023, which is viewed as a plus for adaptation.

For now, Vasco’s interest is limited to monitoring, with no official bid or advanced talks. Even so, the club are already working behind the scenes on 2026 adjustments, with particular attention on the forward line.
