Boca are exploring a move for 19-year-old Vélez prospect Maher Carrizo, a player widely regarded as the club's jewel.
River tried in the previous window with City Group backing but the deal collapsed. According to Doble Amarilla, Boca are said to be willing to mirror that approach through another business group evaluating a 16 million dollar purchase, then loaning him to Boca.
Vélez maintain they will not sell Carrizo to River or Boca, and will only let him leave if the full release clause is paid. Carrizo has already lifted a trophy with Vélez.
Manchester City and Valencia were close to a joint acquisition, but talks fell through, opening the door for Boca to enter the race.
Carrizo has said he would like to play in the Premier League and that he admires Arsenal among others, adding that he hopes for many offers. He also stated that his biggest aim is to play a World Cup with the senior national team. For now, he says his focus is on Vélez and remaining calm.
Beyond Carrizo, Boca are working on a deal for Marino Hinestroza and are in talks for San Lorenzo pair Gastón Hernández and Alexis Cuello. Negotiations are being led by Marcelo Delgado, with no agreements yet, while decisions are pending on several players returning from loans.
