The Copa Argentina organisers have set Thursday 16 July for Boca’s round-of-32 tie against Sarmiento, a fixture that will be played during the World Cup’s final stages. Kick-off time and the neutral venue remain to be confirmed.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the revised date trims a week from Boca’s pre-season schedule, with the coaching staff accelerating preparations after initially pencilling in a debut a week later.
The meeting with the Junín side will act as a tune-up before the club’s primary continental target. One week on, Boca are due to host O’Higgins in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana round of 32 at La Bombonera on 23 July.
The confirmation also brings forward Vasco Arruabarrena’s return to the dugout. He had envisaged his first official game coming in the Sudamericana, but his reintroduction will now arrive on domestic duty.
Arruabarrena is already mapping pre-season work ahead of his return to the country, with the board placing full trust in the former full-back after the Libertadores exit.
With the transfer window active, Boca aim to wrap up remaining signings quickly to bolster depth. July will be exacting, and an opening win would provide timely momentum for the pivotal South American tie.
