For Boca, 28 November stands as an unforgettable date, uniting the 1978 Libertadores crown and the 2000 Intercontinental triumph.

According to Sitiboca.com.ar, as 1977 champions they advanced directly to the second phase, meeting River Plate and Atlético Mineiro. Results read 0-0 at home then 2-0 away against River, plus 2-1 in Belo Horizonte and 3-1 in Buenos Aires versus Mineiro. The final brought Deportivo Cali, the first Colombian club to reach that stage.

The first leg in the Pascual Guerrero ended 0-0. Back home, Boca produced a commanding 4-0 to clinch the title. After the defeat, Carlos Salvador Bilardo said no team in the world could have beaten Boca on that pitch that day.

Juan Carlos Lorenzo fielded Hugo Gatti, Vicente Pernía, Francisco Sá, Roberto Mouzo, Miguel Bordón, Jorge Benítez, Rubén Suñé, Mario Zanabria, Ernesto Mastrángelo, Carlos Salinas and Hugo Perotti. All three forwards scored. Perotti opened and finished it, Mastrángelo struck the second and Salinas added the other.

The other landmark came in Tokyo in 2000. As Libertadores holders, Boca faced Real Madrid, newly flying the Galáctico tag with Iker Casillas, Fernando Hierro, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo and Raúl González. Carlos Bianchi picked Oscar Córdoba, Hugo Ibarra, Jorge Bermúdez, Cristian Traverso, Aníbal Matellán, Sebastián Battaglia, Mauricio Serna, José Basualdo, Juan Román Riquelme, Marcelo Delgado and Martín Palermo, whose two early goals sealed a famous 2-1 win, a genuine epic.
