Martín Cauteruccio, 39, is Bolívar’s leading attacking threat as they bid to knock out Grêmio and reach the Sudamericana last 16. The Uruguayan scored in the 3-2 first-leg win in La Paz and has long been prolific.

According to Globo.com, Cauteruccio produced a career-best 2024 with Sporting Cristal, hitting 39 goals in 31 matches to finish as the world’s third top scorer, level with Harry Kane of Bayern Munich. That form saw him dubbed the hat-trick king.

Kane played 43 matches, 12 more than the Uruguayan, so Cauteruccio led on average. He ended one behind second-placed Robert Lewandowski, who featured 52 times for Barcelona, while Viktor Gyökeres topped 2024 with 52 in 56 for Sporting Lisbon. Cauteruccio was the only player in the top 10 to average above a goal a game, at 1.26.

Team success was scarcer. Sporting Cristal exited Libertadores qualifying to Always Ready, 7-4 on aggregate, with all their goals scored by Cauteruccio. In the Peruvian league they finished runners-up, three points behind Universitario.

He was the league’s top scorer with 35 in 29, 16 clear, and recorded six hat-tricks plus a four-goal outing. Mid 2025 he joined Bolívar, closing that year with 28 in 49 across both clubs.

This season he has nine in 13. In the Libertadores group stage he was a substitute in both games against Fluminense and scored only once, in the defeat to Independiente Rivadavia, a result that eliminated Bolívar and sent them into the Sudamericana to face Grêmio.
