According to a report from Sky Germany, Mainz have reached an agreement with Bologna to sign Stefan Posch on loan for the remainder of the season, without an option to buy.
That of course means that the Austrian defender’s loan at fellow Serie A side Como will come to an end but, per the report, there’s an agreement between all parties.
As such, the 28-year-old is expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday.
Although Posch has featured 14 times in the league for Como in 2025/26, the 28-year-old has started on just three occasions. At Mainz, given their depleted defence because of injuries, Posch – formerly of Hoffenheim – will provide valuable cover and experience.
Themselves looking for defensive reinforcements, Cologne showed an interest in signing Posch, but instead opted to bring in Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan from Manchester City for the remainder of the campaign – the England youth international has already featured in three Bundesliga games since his arrival.
