Bolton Wanderers have been urged to sign Derby County loanee winger Corey Blackett-Taylor on a permanent deal this summer.

Bolton Wanderers have put themselves in a very nice position in the League One table, and although automatic promotion will probably be out of reach now, Steven Schumacher's side may go into the play-offs as the clear favourites.

The Trotters came from 2-0 down after 88 minutes to defeat Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 this past weekend, courtesy of yet another dramatic turnaround - which has been a theme of their campaign thus far.

That closed the gap to second place Cardiff City, who they will play in mid-April, to eight points; keeping the dream of squeezing into the top two and the automatic promotion spots just about alive.

That victory has extended Bolton’s current unbeaten run of form in League One to 11 matches, with Steven Schumacher impressively turning things around after a major mid-season blip, and some impressive business in the January transfer window has seen Wanderers cement themselves as the biggest challenger to the runaway top two of Cardiff and Lincoln City.

Corey Blackett-Taylor has been an inspired piece of January business by Bolton Wanderers

One of those impressive January recruits is Corey Blackett-Taylor, who arrived in Lancashire on loan from Championship outfit Derby County until the end of the season.

Having scored early on his debut in a 1-0 victory away at AFC Wimbledon, Blackett-Taylor has continued to impress and has fought back well from a recent short injury break.

He was the man that majorly inspired that remarkable turnaround against the Chairboys, with an excellent assist for Mason Burstow to equalise before then an outrageous individual effort from distance to snatch the victory deep into second-half stoppage-time.

Out of contract at Pride Park in the summer, many Bolton fans, like FLW Fan Pundit Liam O’Meara, would be very happy to see him stay on a permanent basis, regardless of what division Wanderers find themselves in.

Liam told FLW: “I think that, like most Bolton fans, I’ve been really impressed with Corey Blackett-Taylor since he’s come in.

“He had a very good reputation. I do remember him from the Derby team that went up a couple of years back.

“He has really hit the ground running. He’s a constant danger and seems to have a range of weapons in terms of his pace but also his ability to come inside and link up well with the play.

“He’s one of three or four wingers that are generally and genuinely dangerous.

“Do I want us to sign him permanently? There’s no reason why not.

“I think that if we do go up...he has been successful in the Championship. I know he dropped out of favour at Derby but he has played at that level.

“While I’d want us to be looking to upgrade across the team, I think he has shown enough that, at the very least, he would be a very good squad player at Championship level.

“If we didn’t go up this year then he could be someone we can turn to with and with a full season of him, who knows what we could do next year in League One.”

Bolton Wanderers are blessed with impressive riches in attack - Corey Blackett-Taylor has slotted in seamlessly

After profligacy in the first-half of the season majorly undermined some generally impressive performances, the January window has brought about a major change in Bolton’s attacking fortunes.

Even with the absence of the injured Amario Cozier-Duberry, who was magnificent for large parts in the first half of the campaign, Bolton have begun to become much more efficient and effective in the final third.

That is due to the quality and quantity of the players that they now have with Blackett-Taylor one of three left-wing options, alongside Thierry Gale and Ibrahim Cissoko – who both scored in a recent 5-1 drubbing of Exeter City.

Ruben Rodrigues also got his first Bolton goal to begin the comeback against Wycombe with the Portuguese attacking midfielder competing with John McAtee for the ‘number ten’ role – which is currently not a going concern.

That is because Schumacher is deploying a 4-4-2 that sees Sam Dalby - who got another assist to make it 10 direct goal involvements in eight games - alongside Johnny Kenny, on loan from Celtic.

Burstow - still Bolton’s top scorer in League One - notched his 11th league goal of the campaign against Wycombe, and trying to put Bolton out of sight is beginning to look a daunting task for most of the division.
