Football League World have exclusively revealed that both Wanderers and Bradford City are eyeing Wareham ahead of the summer transfer window.

Like Bolton, Bradford have an outside chance of beating Cardiff City to an automatic promotion spot, but a play-off finish is the most likely outcome.

Wanderers haven't been in the Championship since being relegated from the second tier in 2019, and are keen to add firepower to their ranks ahead of next season.

Bolton Wanderers encouraged to land Jayden Wareham move as Johnny Kenny alternative

Steven Schumacher's men already strengthened their attacking options when they signed Johnny Kenny on loan from Scottish Premiership giants Celtic in the winter transfer window.

However, if Bolton can't sign Kenny permanently this summer, they will have to look elsewhere.

FLW asked our Wanderers fan pundit, Liam O'Meara, whether he would welcome a move for Wareham.

O'Meara said: "Jayden Wareham, I can very much see why Bolton would be interested in him. The numbers themselves are fantastic, particularly with Exeter struggling at the bottom end of the table, and having a lot of problems off the field as well this season.

"To be able to score 18 league goals while that's going on is going to catch the sight of anyone, so that's the first thing to say. But, I think this is very much the second striker that Bolton are maybe looking at, and the reason they probably brought in Johnny Kenny on loan for the second half of the season.

"Wareham is a very similar profile. Industrious, pressing forward, mobile, 22 years old, so if Bolton weren't able to secure Johnny Kenny permanently, which has always been a goal over the last 12 months, then I can absolutely see why they'd be interested in Jayden Wareham.

"It makes complete sense."

Jayden Wareham would be a better Johnny Kenny alternative for Bolton than Sam Nombe

As alluded to by O'Meara, the best case scenario for Bolton this summer would be to seal the permanent services of Kenny, who has had a strong impact on their League One promotion push since joining on loan from Celtic.

However, even if Wanderers book their place in next season's Championship, acquiring the Ireland international may not be possible, due to circumstances out of their control.

Celtic are set to appoint a new manager this summer, once Martin O'Neill's interim stint is over, and their new boss may believe that Kenny should stay in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, as reported by the Bolton News, Wanderers were interested in Rotherham United striker Sam Nombe in January, but were ultimately put off by the South Yorkshire outfit's £2million asking price.

The Millers are set to be relegated to League Two, which will mean that the Greater Manchester club should be able to land Nombe's signature for less than £2m.

However, Wareham would be a better option for Schumacher's side than the Rotherham man this summer, as he has scored significantly more goals in League One this term, and would have a greater sell-on value, at just 22 years old.

Nombe is 27, and was unable to perform in the Championship for the Millers after joining them from Exeter in the summer of 2023.
