Callum Wilson is reportedly nearing a return to full fitness in a boost to Newcastle United.
The 32-year-old has been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury in the Magpies’ 4-2 defeat at Brentford in December.
However, journalist Craig Hope has shared a positive update regarding the Newcastle striker, saying he has returned to light training.
And though Saturday’s home clash with Fulham will come too soon for him, Wilson could be involved against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.
Alexander Isak is currently in the form of his life and will most likely start the important game against the Gunners. But a quality option like Wilson, who has been described as “outstanding” by his manager Eddie Howe, on the bench will be a boost for them.
Meanwhile, Harvey Barnes, who picked up a thigh injury in their FA Cup win over Bromley earlier this month, is expected to remain out for around 2-3 weeks.
Newcastle will face Fulham tomorrow in an exciting Premier League clash at St James’ Park.
The Tyneside club will be seeking revenge against the Cottagers following the 3-1 away defeat in the reverse fixture in September last year.
Newcastle returned to winning ways in the English top-flight against Southampton last weekend.
They entered the away contest on the back of a 4-1 loss to Bournemouth, but bounced back to seal a comfortable win.
The visitors started sluggishly at St Mary’s Stadium, conceding a goal within the first ten minutes. But they soon gained control, as Isak struck twice to put his side 2-1 ahead.
Sandro Tonali added another after the break, with Howe’s men taking all three points back to Tyneside.
