Bordeaux mayor and Metropole president Thomas Cazenave has responded to Girondins de Bordeaux’s exclusion from the national leagues, confirmed on appeal by the DNCG, calling for the club to be rebuilt. According to L'Équipe, his comments were issued in a statement on Wednesday.

He said Bordeaux Metropole had been fully mobilised for several weeks to support the club’s revival and create the conditions for financial sustainability. He added that the priority now is to prepare for the future.

Cazenave stressed that the Girondins are part of Bordeaux’s history. He plans to speak with all relevant stakeholders in the coming days to consider the club’s next steps.

Exclusion from the national leagues means Bordeaux will be required to play, at a minimum, in Régional 1 next season.

The risk of court-ordered liquidation has never been greater.
