ExpressAndStar.com reports that Dave Bassett has turned a lifetime chasing the 92 into a book, from a Luton bore draw to dinner with Kylie.

He was at Luton Town 0-0 Swindon in March 1993. A hotel invitation and communal dining left him seated beside Kylie Minogue, a surreal memory from an otherwise forgettable night.

92 Grounds for Divorce? charts 60 years visiting the homes of every club in the top four divisions, mixing football with the people and times that framed each trip.

A lifelong Albion fan, his first match was Wolves 3-1 Tottenham at Molineux in February 1962. Completing the 92 in 2023 at Spurs 1-3 Brentford sparked the idea for the book.

He only chased the finish in the last 10 years after realising he had already visited over 70 grounds. Highlights include Albion’s 6-3 at Manchester United, Wolves 2-1 Leeds in 1972, and Kidderminster beating Blues in 1994.

People animate the stories, with Ron Atkinson and the late Dave Wharton among those featured. He met his managerial namesake and once lived next to Mick McCarthy, a gnome prank was taken in good humour.

The mischievous title is tongue-in-cheek. He and wife Jan are nearing 50 years of marriage, and she joined trips, including to Everton’s new stadium to complete the set again last season.

Forewords come from Dawn Astle and Sky Sports presenter Hayley McQueen, whose father Gordon died in 2023 after CTE. 92 Grounds for Divorce? is available at amazon.co.uk and jmdmedia.co.uk.
