Borussia Dortmund, the German club, has officially announced the opening of its first football academy in Africa, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing young talent and supporting the global growth of football.

In Accra, BVB sows the first seeds of its African project

This initiative is the result of a partnership with Ghanaian club Shooting Stars, aiming to provide a structured training program for boys and girls aged 6 to 18. The academy will be based at Achimota School, located in the Ghanaian capital.

The Black and Yellows have a special relationship with Ghana, a country where several players have left their mark on the club’s history, including Otto Addo, Ibrahim Tanko, Kevin-Prince Boateng, and Matthew Amoah.

Benedikt Scholz, executive director of the BVB academy, stated: "The opening of this academy sends a strong message in a country with which Borussia Dortmund has had ties for many years, especially through players like Otto Addo and Ibrahim Tanko. Together with our local partners, we want to gradually build sustainable structures to support the development of young players."

For his part, former club legend and Ghanaian international Ibrahim Tanko also shared his thoughts:

"Introducing Borussia Dortmund’s philosophy to Ghana is something truly special. This country is full of talent and passion. This academy will give young players the mindset and discipline they need to succeed."
