After missing out on Marcel Reguła in the summer at the eleventh hour, Borussia Dortmund are set to make another attempt to sign the newly capped Poland international, according to Ruhr Nachrichten, who report that the 19-year-old Zaglebie Lubin winger remains ‘high’ on the club’s shortlist.
Per RN, BVB even sent a plane to Poland, ahead of a potential transfer, but Giannis Konstantelias’ serious injury 72 hours before the transfer window shut, forced Dortmund’s hand. In the end, Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri was signed on loan, while Barcelona’s Hector Fort was also a candidate. Ultimately, though, the signing of Nwaneri, according to the regional outlet, exhausted BVB’s financial resources, thus forcing them to miss out on Reguła.
Speaking to RN, Dortmund sporting director Ole Book made it clear that the Black-Yellows are monitoring the situation. “We’ve not exactly overflowing with depth at the moment,” he explained. “However, it could be also be that a departure is necessary [before bringing someone in] first.”
Reguła scored five goals and provided five assists in 31 league appearances last season, earning him the league’s Best Young Player of the Season award – additionally, the Pole has scored two goals in nine league games this season.
